How to Follow a School from Discovery
Following a school on KiddyCash lets you stay connected to a school’s public profile — even before your child is officially enrolled. Once you follow a school, you can see updates, upcoming fee campaigns, and other information the school shares publicly. This is useful if you are considering a school in Nairobi or anywhere else across the region, or if your child’s admission is still being processed.
What “following” means
Following a school is similar to subscribing to a page. It does not enrol your child or create any financial obligation. It simply adds the school to your tracked list so you can check back easily without searching for it again. You can unfollow at any time.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
- The KiddyCash app installed and your parent account set up
- At least one child profile added to your family (not strictly required to follow, but recommended so you can act quickly when enrolment opens)
- A stable internet connection
Steps to follow a school
1. Open the Discovery section
From the KiddyCash home screen, tap the Discover tab at the bottom of the screen. This section is the public directory where you can browse schools, businesses, and other registered organisations.
If you are new to this area, read how to browse the public business directory for a full walkthrough of the directory layout.
2. Search for the school
Use the search bar at the top of the Discovery screen. Type the name of the school — for example, “Sunshine Academy” or “St. Mary’s Primary.” Results will appear as you type. Schools are listed alongside businesses in the same directory.
3. Open the school’s public profile
Tap the school’s name or logo in the search results to open its public profile. This page shows the school’s basic details, any active campaigns (such as term fee drives), and public announcements. If you want to understand what information is typically shown on a public profile before you tap through, see how to open a public business profile.
You can also go directly to a school’s profile using a link in this format:
https://kiddy.cash/public/school/:school_id
Replace :school_id with the actual ID of the school — schools sometimes share this link in their newsletters, WhatsApp groups, or on their notice boards.
4. Tap the Follow button
On the school’s public profile page, tap the Follow button. It is usually displayed near the top of the profile, next to the school’s name. The button will change to show that you are now following the school.
5. Confirm in your Followed Schools list
Go back to the Discovery tab and tap Following or check your profile settings to see your list of followed schools. The school you just followed should appear there.
What happens next
Once you follow a school, any campaigns or public updates the school posts will be easier to find. When fees are set up — for example, a KES 15,000 term payment via a campaign code — you will be able to act quickly from a familiar starting point rather than searching from scratch.
Starting these conversations early with your children matters too. If you want to use school fees as a real-life lesson about planning and money, why money conversations matter more than the amounts involved is a good place to start. And if you are not sure how to bring up money topics with your kids at all, how to start talking about money with your kids at any age offers practical approaches for different age groups.
