Why this matters

When your child spots something they want — say, a pair of sneakers at a Nairobi shop or a game listed by a local business — KiddyCash gives them (and you) a structured way to save toward it instead of spending impulsively. As the parent managing your family account, you can guide that process by following a product from a public business profile. Following a product lets you track it, add it to your child’s wishlist, and even link it to a savings goal — all without leaving the app.

This article walks you through that journey from the very beginning.

Key terms to know

  • Public business profile — A page any KiddyCash-registered business can publish so families can browse their products. You can reach a business profile directly at a URL like https://kiddy.cash/public/business/:business_id (where :business_id is replaced with the actual business identifier).
  • Follow — Subscribing to a product so you receive updates if the price or availability changes.
  • Wishlist — A curated list inside your child’s wallet where saved products live until they’re ready to be purchased or removed.
  • Kids’ wallet — The in-app wallet your child uses to receive allowances, spend, and save within limits you control.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  1. A KiddyCash parent account with at least one child profile set up.
  2. The business profile link or name of the business whose product you want to follow. If you’re not sure where to find products, check out what’s new in products in KiddyCash for an overview of how the product catalogue works.

Step-by-step: Following a product

1. Open the business profile

Navigate to the business’s public profile. You can do this by:

  • Tapping a shared link (for example, https://kiddy.cash/public/business/:business_id), or
  • Searching the business name in the KiddyCash app’s Discover tab.

The public profile shows all products the business has listed. Businesses manage these listings themselves — if you’re curious how that side works, see how to add a business product or how to edit a business product.

2. Select the product

Scroll through the product listings and tap the item your child is interested in. This opens the product detail page, which shows the name, description, price (in KES for Kenyan businesses, or the local currency), and any images the business has uploaded.

3. Tap “Follow” or “Add to Wishlist”

On the product detail page, you will see two options:

  • Follow — Tap this to receive notifications if the product price drops or stock changes. This does not add it to your child’s wallet yet.
  • Add to Wishlist — Tap this to save the product directly to a specific child’s wishlist. You will be prompted to select which child’s profile to save it under.

You can do both at the same time.

4. Assign it to a child (wishlist flow only)

If you tapped Add to Wishlist, a modal will appear listing your children’s profiles. Select the child this product is for, then confirm. The product now appears in that child’s wishlist, visible to both of you.

5. Confirm and review

Go to your child’s profile, then tap Wishlist. You should see the product listed there with its current price. From here, you or your child can link it to a savings goal or simply keep it as a reference for when allowance builds up — handy whether you’re paying out via M-Pesa or through in-app transfers.
