How to Update Family Details
Your family record in KiddyCash is more than a label — it controls how allowances are distributed, how KYC verification is tied to your account, and how your children’s wallets are grouped. When something changes (a new phone number, a move from Nairobi to Mombasa, a different family name after marriage), updating these details promptly keeps your account accurate and avoids friction during transactions.
Before You Begin
Make sure you have already created your family profile and that you know your family_id — you’ll need it if you’re accessing your family directly via the dashboard URL. You can also open the Family Overview page first to confirm you’re editing the correct record, especially if you manage more than one family group.
Steps to Update Family Details
-
Navigate to your Family Overview. Go to your family’s dashboard at
https://kiddy.cash/family/:family_id, replacing:family_idwith your actual ID. You’ll land on the overview screen showing your family name, admin details, and linked children’s wallets. -
Open the Settings panel. Click the Settings tab near the top right of the Family Overview. This is separate from your personal account settings — changes here affect the entire family group.
-
Edit the fields you need to update. The editable fields include:
- Family name — for example, if you’re updating from “Kamau Family” to “Kamau-Njoroge Family” after a name change.
- Primary contact number — update this if your M-Pesa-linked number has changed, since KiddyCash uses this for transaction notifications and allowance disbursement alerts.
- Location — selecting your city or region (Nairobi, Kisumu, Kampala, Lagos, etc.) can affect currency defaults and campaign eligibility. If your family is KES-based, confirm the currency setting hasn’t shifted.
- Family description — an optional internal note visible only to family admins.
-
Save your changes. Click Save Family Details. The system will prompt you to confirm if you’ve changed a contact number tied to KYC verification. If your identity was verified under the previous number, you may need to re-submit a verification step — follow the on-screen prompt.
-
Verify the update. After saving, the Family Overview refreshes automatically. Confirm the updated fields display correctly. If you updated your M-Pesa number, send a test transaction code to confirm notifications are routing to the right line.
-
Inform co-admins if applicable. If another parent or guardian shares admin access to the family, changes you make take effect immediately for the whole group. Drop them a message so they’re not caught off guard by a changed family name or contact detail.
What You Cannot Change Here
A few fields are locked after initial setup for compliance reasons:
- Country of registration — tied to your KYB/KYC submission.
- Primary admin (owner) — ownership transfer requires contacting KiddyCash support.
- Currency — if your family was set up in KES, this cannot be self-edited; raise a support ticket.
Why This Matters Beyond the Basics
Keeping family details current isn’t just administrative hygiene. If you’re using KiddyCash to teach your kids about saving, allowances, or even how family loans work — something explored well in this piece on how family loans function as a financial education tool — accurate family records ensure every transaction and lesson lands on the right wallet. There’s also a longer-term angle: as covered in why teaching kids about loans creates better financial adults, the habits formed here compound over time. A clean family profile is the foundation.
