How to Create a Kid Transaction

A kid transaction is a money movement that you — the child — start yourself from your KiddyCash account or kiddy business. This could be sending funds to a friend, paying for something at a school canteen, or making a purchase inside the app. Think of it like sending M-Pesa, but from your own KiddyCash wallet.

Before you begin, make sure your parent or guardian has set up your family on KiddyCash and that your wallet has funds available. If you are not sure how your family handles money requests, you can also ask them to check out how to create a family transaction, which explains the parent side of things.

What you will need

  • An active KiddyCash account (personal wallet or kiddy business)
  • A positive wallet balance in KES or your family’s set currency
  • The recipient’s transaction code — a short code every KiddyCash user has, like a till number or Paybill, but just for your account
  • A reason or note for the transaction (some families require this)

Steps to create a kid transaction

  1. Open the KiddyCash app and log in to your account. Make sure you are on your kid dashboard, not a parent view.

  2. Tap “Send or Pay” on your home screen. This button is the starting point for any money you want to move out of your wallet.

  3. Go to the transaction creation page. You can also navigate directly by visiting https://kiddy.cash/kiddy/account/transaction/create in your browser if you prefer.

  4. Enter the recipient’s transaction code. Ask the person or business you are paying for their code. Type it carefully — codes are unique to each account, so a wrong digit sends money to the wrong place.

  5. Type the amount you want to send. The app will show your current balance so you know what you have available. You cannot send more than your balance.

  6. Add a note. Write a short reason — for example, “Lunch at school canteen, Nairobi Academy” or “Paying Amara back for bus fare.” Some families set rules that require a note before a transaction is approved.

  7. Review the details. Check the recipient code, amount, and note one more time before moving forward.

  8. Tap “Submit Transaction.” Your transaction will be created and sent for processing.

  9. Wait for confirmation. If your family has approval rules switched on, the transaction may go into a pending state. This means a parent or guardian needs to review it before the money moves. You will see a status update in your transaction history. Your parent can learn more about that step by reading how to review a pending family transaction.

A note on earning money to transact

The best transactions start with money you earned yourself. Whether that is through completing chores at home or running a small kiddy business, having your own funds makes every send feel real. Troubleshooting

  • Transaction code not found — Double-check the code with the recipient. Codes are case-sensitive.
  • Insufficient balance — Ask your parent to top up your wallet or check if an allowance is due.
  • Transaction stuck in pending — Your parent needs to approve it. Remind them to check the app.
