How to view loan history for a child

Loan history gives you a complete record of every loan linked to a specific child — including loans that are still being repaid, loans that have been fully settled, and any that were created but not yet accepted. This is useful when you want to track how a child is managing borrowed money over time, whether you gave them KES 500 for a school trip in Nairobi or a larger amount to cover a one-off expense.

Before you begin, make sure you have already created at least one loan for the child. If no loans exist yet, the history screen will be empty.

What is loan history?

A loan in KiddyCash is money you advance to a child from outside their wallet balance, with an expectation of repayment. Loan history is the chronological list of all loans ever created for a specific child — not just active ones. Each entry shows the amount, status, and key dates so you can see the full picture at a glance.

Steps to view loan history for a child

  1. Open the KiddyCash app and sign in to your parent account.

  2. Go to your family dashboard. This is the main screen you see after logging in, where your children’s wallets and activity are listed.

  3. Select the child whose loan history you want to review. Tap their name or profile card.

  4. Tap the “Loans” tab on the child’s profile page. This tab lists all loan activity specific to that child.

  5. Browse the loan list. Each loan appears as a card showing the key details (see table below).

  6. Tap any loan card to open the full detail view, including repayment breakdowns and any notes you added when creating the loan.

You can also go directly to the loans screen for a specific child using this link (replace {kidId} with your child’s actual ID): https://kiddy.cash/family/kids/{kidId}/loans

What you will see in the loan list

FieldWhat it means
Loan amountThe original amount advanced, e.g. KES 1,000
Outstanding balanceHow much is still owed
StatusActive, Repaid, Pending, or Cancelled
Created dateWhen you created the loan
Last repayment dateThe most recent date a repayment was recorded
Repayment sourceHow repayments are being made — e.g. from allowance deductions or manual top-ups

Understanding loan statuses

  • Pending — The loan has been created but the child has not yet accepted it in their wallet.
  • Active — The loan is accepted and repayments are in progress or due.
  • Repaid — The full loan amount has been settled.
  • Cancelled — The loan was voided before or after acceptance.

Viewing loans across all your children

The child-level loan screen only shows loans for one child at a time. If you manage several children — common in larger family setups where each child has their own KiddyCash wallet — and you want a combined view, use the family loans overview instead. That screen aggregates outstanding balances and repayment progress across every child in your family account.

Tips

  • Repayments made through M-Pesa top-ups or recurring allowance deductions will both appear in the loan detail view.
  • You can share a summary of a child’s loan history with them directly from the detail screen to encourage accountability.
  • Loan history is read-only — to make changes, go to the individual loan and use the edit or cancel options available there.
