How to view a child loan

A loan in KiddyCash is money you as a parent have extended to your child through the app — tracked with a balance, repayment schedule, and status. Before you can view a loan, one must already exist. If you haven’t set one up yet, start with how to create a loan for a child.

What is the loan detail page?

The loan detail page is a screen inside your child’s KiddyCash account that shows everything about a single loan in one place — the outstanding balance, how much has been repaid, and whether the loan is active, completed, or overdue. Think of it like a mini statement, similar to checking a loan summary on M-Pesa or your mobile banking app, but designed for your child’s wallet.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • The KiddyCash app installed and your parent account logged in
  • At least one child added to your family profile
  • An existing loan created for that child

Steps to view a child loan

  1. Open the KiddyCash app on your phone and sign in with your parent account credentials.

  2. Go to your Family dashboard. This is the main screen showing all the children linked to your account.

  3. Tap the child’s name or profile picture whose loan you want to inspect. This opens their individual account view.

  4. Tap the Loans tab inside the child’s account. You will see a list of all loans created for that child.

  5. Tap the specific loan you want to review. This opens the loan detail page.

You can also navigate directly to a loan using its unique link: https://kiddy.cash/family/kiddy/account/loan/:loan_id Replace :loan_id with the actual loan ID shown in your app. This is useful if you manage multiple children and want to bookmark a specific loan for quick access.

  6. Review the loan details displayed on the screen.

Why track loans in KiddyCash?

Giving your child a loan — rather than a free allowance — teaches them that money has responsibility attached to it. Whether you’re based in Nairobi or a smaller town, the habit of repaying builds the same financial discipline that carries into adulthood. If you’re looking for ideas on how to tie loans to everyday tasks, why chores still matter in modern family life is a good starting point, and how chores connect to financial literacy for kids explains the research behind the approach.

Need to make changes?

If the loan details look incorrect — wrong amount, wrong schedule — you can update them without deleting and recreating the loan. See how to edit a child loan for step-by-step instructions.
