How to edit a school class
Class details shift — a teacher transfers to another school, a classroom moves to a different block, or enrolment numbers change after the term starts. Rather than deleting and recreating a class from scratch, KiddyCash lets you edit an existing class directly from the Schools portal.
Before you edit, it helps to have already reviewed the current state of the class. Use the how to view a school class guide to confirm exactly what is set up before making changes.
What you can edit
Once a class has been created (see how to create a school class if you are setting one up for the first time), you can update:
- Class name — for example, renaming Grade 4 Blue to Grade 4 Kilimani after a school rebranding
- Assigned teacher — swap the teacher linked to the class
- Age group or grade level — useful if a class has been reclassified mid-year
- Enrolment capacity — raise or lower the maximum number of learners
- Class description — any internal notes visible to school admins
You cannot change the school linked to the class after creation. If a class was created under the wrong school account, contact KiddyCash support.
Steps to edit a class
-
Log in to the KiddyCash Schools portal using your administrator credentials. Replace
:school_idwith your school’s unique ID and:school_class_idwith the relevant class ID — both are visible in your browser’s address bar when you open the class. -
Navigate to Classes using the left sidebar. You will see a list of all active classes under your school account.
-
Open the class you want to edit by clicking its name. This takes you to the class detail view.
-
Click the Edit button — it appears in the top-right corner of the class detail panel, represented by a pencil icon.
-
Update the relevant fields. Each field is independently editable. For example, if a teacher at your Nairobi campus has left and a replacement has been onboarded, simply clear the current teacher’s name and select the new one from the dropdown. The dropdown only shows staff who have already been added to your school profile.
-
Save your changes by clicking Update Class. The platform applies changes immediately — no waiting period or approval queue.
-
Verify the update by returning to the class detail view and confirming the new information reflects correctly. If learners are enrolled, their wallet associations and badge progress are not affected by class edits.
A few things worth knowing
-
Teacher reassignment does not notify the teacher automatically. If your school uses KiddyCash to track learner allowances or savings campaigns — for instance, a KES-based savings challenge funded by parent M-Pesa contributions — the new teacher will need to be briefed separately on any active campaigns.
-
Capacity changes take effect immediately. Lowering the capacity below the current enrolment count will not remove learners, but it will prevent new enrolments until the number drops below the new limit.
-
Edits are logged. The audit trail for each class records who made a change and when, which is useful during school inspections or internal reviews.
Teaching kids to manage money well is one of the best things a school can do — and it starts early.
