How kids see notification updates in their own inbox

Your KiddyCash inbox is where you find out what’s happening with your money — without needing to ask a parent or guardian. When your allowance arrives, when a goal gets approved, or when a task is marked complete, a notification lands here first.

This article explains what kinds of notifications you’ll see and what each one means.

What is the notification inbox?

The notification inbox is a feed inside your KiddyCash account that collects updates about your wallet, goals, tasks, and allowances. Think of it like a messages app, but only for things related to your KiddyCash activity.

You can reach it directly at https://kiddy.cash/notifications, or by tapping the bell icon inside the app.

If you have never opened it before, follow the steps in How to open your notification inbox to get started.

Types of notifications you will see

Notification typeWhat it means
Allowance receivedA parent or guardian sent money to your wallet — for example, KES 500 weekly pocket money
Task approvedA task you completed (like cleaning your room) was confirmed by your parent
Task rejectedYour parent reviewed the task and needs you to try again
Goal updateProgress was added to a savings goal you created
Badge earnedYou unlocked a new badge for reaching a milestone
Smart Approval decisionAn automatic decision was made on a request you sent
Transaction code usedA code from your wallet was redeemed at a school canteen or local shop

How to read a notification

  1. Go to https://kiddy.cash/notifications or tap the bell icon on your home screen.
  2. Look for notifications marked with a coloured dot — that dot means the notification is unread.
  3. Tap any notification to open it and see the full details.
  4. Once you tap it, the dot disappears and the notification is marked as read.

What is Smart Approval?

Smart Approval is a KiddyCash feature that lets certain requests — like spending from your wallet — get approved automatically, based on rules your parent has set. Instead of waiting for your guardian to respond, you might see a near-instant decision in your inbox.

For example, a student in Nairobi using KiddyCash at their school canteen might send a spend request and receive an automatic approval within seconds — no M-Pesa confirmation needed from a parent.

Things to remember

  • Notifications do not expire, but older ones move further down your feed.
  • You will only see notifications that relate to your own account — not a sibling’s.
  • If you run a kiddy business, you may also see notifications about business wallet activity and campaign updates.
  • Notifications are not the same as transaction history. For a full record of money movement, check your wallet’s transaction log.
